» About » The Sunshine Coast

Discover the Sunshine Coast. Although part of the British Columbia’s mainland  lying  just northwest of  Vancouver,  access to the region is only by air or water  due to the mountainous terrain. There are no bridges connecting the Sunshine Coast to Vancouver or Vancouver Island regions.
A scenic 40 minute ferry voyage or a 15 minute floatplane ride separates the laid back attitudes of the Sunshine Coast from the more frenetic pace of city life on the other side of the water.

Stretching 180 km (110 mi) along the Salish Sea from Howe Sound to Desolation Sound, one meandering highway links all the communities of Upper and Lower Sunshine Coast from Langdale to the end of the road, literally, in Lund. It’s best to get in the flow and enjoy the area’s local colour, including year round outdoor recreation, festivals,  great waterfront dining, music and unique art. Weather-wise, the Sunshine Coast is blessed with mild winters and warm dry summers. Check out the newly released official Sunshine Coast Travel Guide by Sunshine Coast Tourism.

Pointhouse Suites are ideally situated mid coast so you can check out local attractions north and south in easy day trips. Sargeant Bay Provincial Park is literally next door though many other interesting places are also nearby. Sechelt is the closest large economic center with a range of services, shopping and amenities. Neighbourhood services are available in Halfmoon Bay at Welcome Woods Market and the historic Halfmoon Bay General Store .

Another great idea is to combine the Sunshine Coast with Vancouver Island via the Coastal Circle Route. Wend your way around the Salish Sea touring 444 kms of coastal highway including four ferry crossings, quaint seaside towns, dramatic west coast landscapes and aboriginal history over the course of 3-5 days or more depending on your desired pace.
